DIY NON TOXIC DRY SHAMPOO
Dry shampoo can be such a time and life saver when your hair needs a pick me up, but did you know most commercially sold brands are full of toxic ingredients that are not great for your health or the environment! If dry shampoo is something you buy why not try out Ruby's homemade dry shampoo recipe and make the switch to a more healthier and cheaper option :)
It takes a little time to begin with because making your own dry shampoo is all about trial and error when making a mix to suit your hair colour. Play around with adding more or less colouring agent. When you find the match for you take note of how much you added and its a 2 second job when you go to make a top up mixture!
The basic mixture is..
- 2 tablespoons arrowroot powder or cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons additional coloring powdersJust arrowroot powder or cornstarch for grey/silver blondes
Bentonite clay for honey blondes
Ground cinnamon for strawberry blondes
Unsweetened cocoa powder for brunettes
Activated charcoal for darker colours
Combine all ingredients in a small container with a tight fitting lid. Apply lightly to greasy roots of hair using an old makeup brush and gently rub in with fingers or comb through. You can also add the mixture to a shaker bottle and apply it that way. Then brushing and combing through will do the trick to get it mixed in, too.
